The book of Daniel – chapter by chapter and verse by verse

Daniel 1:1-2 KJV (2 verses)

1 In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah came Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon unto Jerusalem, and besieged it.

Jesus mentions Daniel in Mark 13. God mentions Daniel in the book of Ezekiel.

Daniel means "my God is Judge". We must remember to leave the judging to God. (However, we have God-given discernment.)

The 10 northern tribes of Israel had been taken into captivity by the Assyrians 200 years prior to this time, but the other two southern tribes (Judah and Benjamin) are just being taken into captivity in Babylon by king Nebuchadnezzar after he had besieged Jerusalem.

See Jeremiah 27:6 - God calls Nebuchadnezzar "my servant". Until Iran came into power, Nebuchadnezzar, his son and his grandson stayed in power.

2 And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with part of the vessels of the house of God: which he carried into the land of Shinar to the house of his god; and he brought the vessels into the treasure house of his god.

Notice lower case "g" regarding Nebuchadnezzar's "god".

Shinar is Babylon, it translates to "two rivers", the Tigris and the Euphrates.
